Nila's Pond Scene

A couple of different ones for this week. This one was a normal flat cake with a scene of a pond filled with creatures. The unusual part was the explanation of the name 'Nila' written to the side. I will have to practise my writing skills as this was the most difficult part of the cake.

Tanaya's Jungle

This one is so cool. The different layers - zebra, giraffe and jungle - all turned out so well. I also tweeked the lion a bit and was very happy with the result.

Olive's Jungle

A fitting cake for a little girl who was having her party at the zoo.

Kustom's Jungle Cake

Loved the cheeky monkey border around the bottom cake.

Isabel's Jungle

Cute. Loved the bright colours. Using a new icing which not only tastes better, but comes in some lovely, vibrant colours.

Lily's Madagascar - $130

What fun I had making the characters for this cake. I love how they turned out, especially the penguins. The giraffe was a bit of a challenge so he has a long kebab skewer in his neck to keep him upright. The two characters on the top of the second tier are called Pat and Stanley. I had never heard of them but apparently they are Lily's favourite tele characters. Love it!

Hanna's Farm Cake - $130

Phew - what a week this week has been. Not only have I had to do this farm cake (plus 40 matching cupcakes), I have also had an Alice in Wonderland cake and a Dolly Varden cake to do, all required for the same weekend. This cake is proving to be very popular. It's a real cutie anytime, but this one was tweaked a little bit. Not only did it have the usual complement of farm animals, but it also had two white dogs and a grey and white cat on the top as these are the animals the little girl has at home - I hope she recognises them. I added a few ladybirds and a few extra ducklings to this cake, just for something different.

Jessica's Baby Jungle - $130

Here's a little cutie - a jungle cake, but with toy animals on it, rather than 'real' ones. I am pleased with how this one came out. The original idea was to put the snake in the shape of the '2' on top, but didn't have any room in the end so it had to go on the side. This cake is for a little girl so it was in girly colours, but can be done in any colours desired. Cute!

Horse - $130

Okay, this was a strange one. I was asked to make a cake for a 21st birthday. The instructions were that she wanted a horse appearing to jump out of the cake. I had never sculptured a horse before so that was a bit daunting. I was quite taken with the end result. The lines of the cake were clean and uncluttered and the cake turned out really nice. You can even recognise that it's a horse jumping/drowning (your choice). The customer was very pleased and so was I. What a cake to come home to just after I have had a lovely holiday in Sydney with my daughter and my beautiful grandchildren. Happy 1st birthday Ben and thank you for taking your first steps while Grandma was there to see.
