Jett's Lego Ninja

Oh wow! How cute is this one. Loved making it and loved even more the end result. This little Lego man was so much fun to make. I hope I have more like him to do. Let's hope Jett enjoys this as much as I did.

Baxter's Diesel 10

This was a new character on me. Diesel 10 is one of Thomas the Tank Engine's friends. Thank goodness for the internet for obscure pictures. Happy birthday Baxter.

Ayaan's Lightning McQueen

Another first for this week - my first Lightning McQueen. I think he turned out really well and was quote recognisable, maybe a bit short in the chassis but you still knew who it was. Both cakes were in my yummy rich chocolate cake. Happy birthday Ayaan.

Alex's 3D Thomas the Tank Engine

The first of three 3-D Thomas engines I have to make over the next few weeks. This one came with a special request - to have a cow catcher on the front. You can't see it properly in the photo, but it came out really well after a bit of trial and error.

Hunter's Winnie the Pooh

Gorgeous! This cake was iced in buttercream with fondant used only for the decorations. With the warm weather we have been having it did make things a bit more difficult, but I think the end result was lovely. I especially like the little bees on curled wire.

Rico's Jungle

Here is another version of the jungle cake I made just last week, only this time the customer wanted the middle 'giraffe' tier to be in blues instead of orange and brown. I was a bit worried at first but think the finished product looks rather nice.

This year's "Reading For Life" cake for Hutt Central School.

Joshua's Handy Manny Toolbox

This cake was added to a larger square cake which had been made to look like a wooden floor.

Jack's 3D Thomas

I get more and more pleased with the results of this cake everytime I make one.

Armani's Dora Backpack

Still having trouble getting Dora right - she looks a bit like Angelina Jolie in this cake. Boots is excellent though.

Josh's Skateboarder

There wasn't much I could do with this cake after making the ramp and putting the skater and skateboard on it, so some of my time was spent on the details of the skater. You might be able to see a little gold chain hanging off his belt and what about those tiny skateboard wheels!

Joe's Spiderman

I had such big plans for this cake - two buildings made out of cake with a gumpaste Spiderman on the top throwing a royal icing web over everything. Reality is different. Okay, the buildings got made, but when it came to the last minute attaching of Spiderman, he broke. All I could do was use the cast metal Spiderman I had been using for a model and I also had to forego the web. I hope you weren't too upset Joe as you ended up with a really cool metal toy to play with.

Ryan's Toy Story

I had the opportunity to make another Toy Story cake this week and tried to make a more recognisable Buzz Lightyear this time. He's not quite there but getting better. This is a lovely cake to make and I have a lot of fun making the characters. I love the way Mr and Mrs Potatohead are giving each other the eye at the end of the bed.

Jacob's Christening - $120

Here's another example of a beautiful cake that the customer has sourced and I have copied. This one is so delicate for a baby. The booties are made of fondant with a real ribbon around them. The back is a grouping of stars on silver wire and just silver wire curled - very effective. This is a beautiful cake and I hope to do more of them.

Bren's Knight and Dragon - $130

I should probably put a higher price on this cake because of all the work that went into it, but when it comes to the crunch, there isn't a great deal of actual cake in it. The cave is made with an upsidedown Dolly Varden cake tin and the dragon's body is two smallish cakes sculpted and put together with buttercream. I was particularly pleased with the knight. This is the first time I have attempted this design and was extremely pleased with the result.

Joshua's Werewolf - $80

What a difference a year makes! Last year I made my grandson, Joshua, the cutest birthday cake of a dragon breaking out of his shell. This year - it's a werewolf! This cake was made by baking and icing a square cake and then placing on top a plaque I had previously made out of royal icing. I made the moon all pitted, so it would look like creaters then sprinkled some silver glitter over it to look like clouds. The werewolf was black with a mane of reddish-black dusted with bronze glitter. Needless to say, Joshua was very happy with his cake.

James's Car - $130

What a cutie! The little cars are made completely out of fondant and I have painted in the windows with edible silver paint and put in a couple of silver balls for headlights. The candle is made out of fondant rolled around a real candle so it can be lit. I am super happy with this cake and loved making the little cars.

Olle's AK47 Gun - $120

There's a first time for everything, I suppose. This is definitely the first time I have had to make an AK47 gun out of cake and fondant. I am no gun expert, but it seems to have turned out fine and I hope Olle recognises it. Once I was cutting the cake into shapes, I felt there wasn't much cake so I also cut a round and made a cake target, just so there was a bit more cake for eating.

Hugh's Aeroplane - $120

This one was a bit of a mission. The weather had been sooo humid that the fondant was very soft. The plane seemed to turn out alright in the end but the main difference I had to make was putting the wording on clouds on top of the plane instead of on a banner because the humidity wouldn't allow the banner to stay upright. Thankfully Wellington is back to it's normal weather now.
